Hello, my name is Marta Macdonald. I am a second year Midwifery student at McMaster University and beginning my placement at BORN Midwives in Cambridge this Summer. My education has taken me to Kelowna, BC and Edinburgh, Scotland, only to be drawn back to the comforts of Ontario, where I grew up. When I am not studying, working, or enjoying time with my partner and cat, I can be found hiking around the many trails in Hamilton, knitting, reading, or trying out a new recipe. After attaining a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Medical Biochemistry, I was eager to get back to the social, human centered side of science. I had no desire to sit in a lab; I wanted to work with people. It was through working in medical labs that I made the connection between the care I was hoping to provide, the clinical, evidence-based practice I value, and the importance of supporting birthing people and their families throughout their pregnancies, birth and post partum. Midwifery was the obvious next step in my journey. Each year of this program has reinforced my passion for midwifery care, and I look forward to the opportunity to learn along side the BORN Midwives in Cambridge this summer.
